Position Overview

Position type: Full-time, non-exempt
This position will be responsible for the training and development of the Norte bar staff maintaining bar policies and procedures with focus on exceptional guest experience and shared team success. Through constructive teaching methods, this position will have a large training component, and will work with Director of Wine & Spirits, Head of Cocktail and Process Development, and Norte Management to create and revise existing training modules and execute these training frequently with bar and service team. This position will provide communication from the Director of Wine & Spirits, Head of Cocktail and Process Development, and Norte Management to the bar team. This position will also have a strong creative component and will be expected to continue to raise the bar of our artisanal cocktail and spirits program, working in tandem with beverage management team.
Leadership Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist in the oversight of employee performance, discussing deficiencies with Bar Management and constructively working together to rectify any issues.
- Maintain and help to elevate house bar policies and procedures, working with Bar Manager to revise and update policies.
- Participate in ongoing training programs with Director of Wine & Spirits and Bar Management and collectively execute these programs to new and existing LP employees.
- Work closely with Director of Wine & Spirits and Head of Cocktail and Process Development to continue to elevate the LP cocktail program with a mindfulness to current trends in the cocktail market.
- Actively cultivate and maintain genuine and caring relationships with guests, vendors, staff, and neighboring businesses.
- Lead and support bar staff with opening and closing side-work, constructively explain any deficiencies to employee(s)
- Occasionally assist in cocktail menu creation for other beverage outlets on the LP property or satellite locations.
- Actively listen to and handle guest complaints with grace and escalate to Norte Manager if necessary.
- Maintain bar cleanliness and sanitation to Los Poblanos and DOH standards. Working with Norte Manager, delegate cleaning responsibilities to employees via clear schedules and timelines.
- Assist in monthly alcohol cycle counting and weekly ordering.
Bartender Duties & Responsibilities:
- Take beverage orders from serving staff or directly from patrons.
- Prepare and Serve food or beverages.
- Process customer bills or payments.
- Enforce rules or regulations.
- Clean food service areas.
- Communicate with customers to resolve complaints or ensure satisfaction.
- Stock serving stations or dining areas with food or supplies.
Requirements:
- Extensive food and beverage knowledge; including craft cocktails, spirits, wine and beer.
- Well-developed knowledge of classic cocktail recipes and production.
- 3-5 years prior experience as a bartender, in a fine dining establishment with classic and craft cocktails, and extensive wine and beer selection.
- A genuine interest and understanding in food and wine.
- Energy, enthusiasm, excellent customer service and problem solving skills are required.
- Must display a professional appearance and attitude.
- Able to maintain a clean and sanitary work environment.
- Able to serve, bartend, host, bus, and wash dishes if necessary.
- Able to think on your feet and under pressure whilst maintaining a positive outlook and attention to detail.
- Able to give and carry out direction in a high activity and service-oriented environment.
- Able to communicate clearly in and possess a good command of verbal and written English.
- Able to succeed as part of a large team, in small groups, or independently.
- Must be able sit, stand, bend, squat, reach and walk 8 to 10 hours a day.
- Able to grasp, lift, carry. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. in short intervals throughout the day.
- Must be willing and have the ability to work a varied schedule to include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred:
- Introductory Sommelier Certification, or equivalent, is preferred.
- BarSmarts Certification is preferred, and required within 60 days of hire.
- Certified Beer Server, or equivalent, is preferred.
- Interest in organic farming, agriculture, art and architecture is a plus.
