Meet the Makers at T&R: Craft in culture with Heath Ceramics and Alabama Chanin
It's not every day you have a chance to go behind the scenes with your design heroes. We are excited to welcome leaders from Heath Ceramics, Alabama Chanin for a conversation about the vitality of craft in contemporary culture. As design-driven businesses, we share a reverence for craftsmanship, sustainability and community. The conversation will delve into the challenges and rewards of centering small-scale production and working in a historical framework to build a thriving business. Each panelist will share their unique perspective on the role of craft in preserving traditions, respecting makers and materials, and fostering innovation.
Tickets are $15 and include a specialty beverage from the T&R bar team. After the lecture, the shop will be open with a special selection of products Heath Ceramics and Alabama Chanin.
Cathy Bailey is an accomplished designer and the co-owner of Heath Ceramics, an important designer/maker/seller of ceramic dinnerware and tile known for its handcrafted ceramic products, innovative design philosophy, and commitment to sustainability and craft. Catherine, along with her husband Robin, purchased the company in 2003, recognizing the opportunity to design, make and sell under the same roof. They lead the new era of Heath – design-led manufacturing and responsible business practices, coexisting in harmony.
Natalie Chanin is an artist, designer, author and advocate for sustainable living whose work celebrates community, craft and environmental stewardship. As founder of Project Threadways, Alabama Chanin and The School of Making, she has spent over 30 years redefining fashion and design through handmade, sustainable practices. A prolific author of six books, Chanin inspires conversations on preserving traditions and sustainable design.
