Farm Supervisor

The primary duties of the Farm Supervisor are to assist the Farm Manager in all aspects of planning, cultivation and care of agricultural land, edible crops, and other herbs and fruits grown for Kitchen, Spa, M&M, distillation, and other use.  This position must maintain, uphold, and contribute to the values of Los Poblanos regarding sustainable regenerative agriculture, and attention to the quality of product and work ethic.  This position is expected to interact with guests and the public in a friendly and informative manner.

Job Summary

The primary duties of the Farm Supervisor are to assist the Farm Manager in all aspects of planning, cultivation and care of agricultural land, edible crops, and other herbs and fruits grown for Kitchen, Spa, M&M, distillation, and other use.  This position must maintain, uphold, and contribute to the values of Los Poblanos regarding sustainable regenerative agriculture, and attention to the quality of product and work ethic.  This position is expected to interact with guests and the public in a friendly and informative manner.

Essential Job Functions

  • Cultivate fields to provide quality produce for the company, create a reasonably aesthetic environment, and improve the soil.
  • Ensure product and operations standards are met. 
  • Implement irrigation, pest control, and other systems for lawn, tree, or plant health. Perform manual agricultural or horticultural tasks. 
  • Operate farming and grounds maintenance equipment in a safe manner.
  • Build agricultural structures.
  • Maintain clean facilities or sites.  
  • Communicate with team for effective task completion. 
  • Confer with managers to make operational decisions.
  • Inspect and maintain equipment, systems, and inventories to ensure proper functioning.

Duties & Responsibilities  

  • Act as an ambassador and representative for the property, the Village of Los Ranchos, and Albuquerque
  • Assist the Farm Manager in leading and directing the farm team on daily and weekly tasks. Work closely with the Farm Manager to understand the vision and direction of the farm. Be the go-to person on the team if the Farm Manger is unavailable.
  • Assists in all facets of cultivation and production of vegetables, herbs, and fruit, including soil amendment, installation of irrigation systems, infrastructure and support systems, propagation, pruning, planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting.
  • Assist in the maintenance and operation of the systems, equipment, and facilities which are essential to agriculture, including drip and spray systems, acequias, greenhouse, storage, and hand and power tools.
  • Remove debris from work sites. Tidy up tools and equipment after tasks. Keep walkways clear for safety. Remove snow. 
  • Assist with volunteers and interns as needed or requested by the Farm Manager. 
  • When necessary, assist with landscaping duties and projects as requested by the Landscape Manager.
  • When necessary, assist with the care of farm animals. 
  • When necessary, assist in the production and maintenance of compost piles.
  • Notify manager when inventories of materials, equipment, or products require restocking.
  • Document work hours or activities.  Maintain operational records and regulatory or compliance documentation.
  • Participate in training and update technical knowledge.
  • Perform any other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • This is a very physical job. You must be able to work outside in adverse weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold. 
  • Able to stand for long periods and walk on rough, uneven ground and variable soil conditions.
  • Frequent bending, standing, stooping, and kneeling.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be responsible, punctual, hardworking, and respectful.
  • Possess strong communication skills.
  • Must project a friendly and professional attitude, demeanor, and appearance.
  • Possess basic to intermediate agricultural or horticultural knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to use hand, power, and garden tools.
  • Possess the ability to follow instructions.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
