History Spotlight: Ruth Hanna McCormick
A peek into Los Poblanos history
Before marrying Albert Simms and building Los Poblanos Ranch in the early 1930s, Ruth Hanna McCormick had established herself as a nationally-known leader in the women's suffrage movement. Following the first wave of the movement in the mid-19th century (led by activists Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton), Ruth and her colleagues picked up the cause in the 1910s. As a young mother and staunch believer in progressive reform, Ruth realized that women needed to vote in order to legislate change. She was particularly concerned with improving matters of public health, working conditions and childcare. As Kristie Miller writes in her biography of Ruth, "with her developing skills as a charismatic political leader, [Ruth] was in the forefront of the fight on the ballot."
Introducing refills for our Lavender Sanitizer Collection
With a mission dedicated to sustainability and historic preservation, we say Los Poblanos is "rooted in history, planting seeds for the future." Finding a way to create refill options for our product line has always been important to us, and we are thrilled to launch our refill program with our essential sanitizer collection. To minimize single-use plastic waste, keep our refill options on hand and keep clean no matter where the day takes you.
The ultimate staycation
Get away for the ultimate summer staycation with a trip to the farm. Spend slow days exploring the property, playing lawn games and relaxing on the patio with an artisan cocktail. Bring along your little farmers, who will enjoy exploring the neighborhood on cruiser bicycles, making s'mores around the chiminea and building forts in the bunk rooms of our Family Suites. To reserve, simply call our reservations team at 505-344-9297. With plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the fresh air, Los Poblanos is a summer destination like no other.
Beekeeping on the farm
A rich agricultural history
Our farm has been a site of rich agricultural activity since the very beginning. In the 1930s and 1940s, Los Poblanos was a model experimental farm that grew sugar beets, alfalfa, oats, corn and barley. The farm boasted one of the finest purebred herds of Guernsey and Holstein cows, and purebred rams were raised with the intention of helping sheep herders in the state improve their flocks. The historic greenhouse was used as a laboratory for growing new varieties of roses and chrysanthemums commercially.
Meet our new Director of Hospitality Operations
Bienvenidos a Nuevo México, Kim!
We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Kim Vollers and her wonderful family to New Mexico and into the Los Poblanos community. As our new Director of Hospitality Operations, Kim oversees lodging, guest services, dining operations, events, programming, grounds maintenance and facilities on our small-but-mighty 25 acre farm. It's a huge job and with over 25 years of hospitality experience, the majority of which was spent at the Woodstock Inn & Resort in Vermont, she is an ideal fit for Los Poblanos.

Road trip to the farm
Summer travel looks a little different this year, and we think there's something exciting about loading up the car and exploring our own backyard. Our 25 acres of gardens and open space encourage a relaxing agritourism experience, and our Well-being Hospitality Model is in place to ensure comfort and care for our staff, guests and community. With our serene property as your destination, and plenty of activities and amenities to keep you busy here, we hope you'll hit the road and visit us soon.
A Los Poblanos hero: Aldo Leopold
We feel very fortunate to be in New Mexico right now, with vast open spaces, fresh air and big blue skies, and are thankful for the time to walk in the Bosque or in the city's acres of Open Space. One of our heroes at Los Poblanos is the great conservationist Aldo Leopold, whose many years in New Mexico left an impressive environmental legacy on our state. His work in Albuquerque lead to the creation of the Rio Grande Valley State Park, Zoo, Botanic Gardens and Rio Grande Nature Center. In fact, the Nature Center is just down the street from our farm, and is a gateway to the Aldo Leopold Forest and Trail.
Welcome back to the farm
We are overjoyed to begin slowly welcoming lodging guests back to the farm with safety, health and comfort as our highest priorities. With 25 acres of gardens and open space, the agritourism experience at Los Poblanos is ideal for physical and mental well-being. Our Inn rooms feature multiple operable windows to allow a cross draft of fresh air to spill in, and our patio doors let in the warm, sunny afternoon and chilly evening air to encourage a restorative night's sleep. With organic cotton sheets and robes, hardwood floors instead of wall-to-wall carpeting, a fully organic menu at Campo and sweeping views of the North Valley, Los Poblanos provides a healthy and serene retreat.
Our James Beard Best Chef Finalist
After being recognized six times as a semi-finalist for the James Beard Best Chef Southwest Award, we are so thrilled to announce that our own Chef Jonathan Perno has advanced this year as a finalist. The prestigious James Beard Awards Foundation's mission is to celebrate, nurture and honor chefs and other leaders making America's food culture more delicious, diverse and sustainable for everyone.
The James Beard Foundation grants the premiere awards for the culinary industry and has recognized Chef Jonathan amongst just five other talented chefs in our region and only 67 chefs nationally. Representing New Mexico within this distinguished and respected organization, Chef Jonathan's talents and dedication are now celebrated on a national level. We are so proud of his incredible accomplishment. With over a decade spent at Los Poblanos, Chef Jonathan's creativity and passion has truly crafted the Los Poblanos model of Rio Grande Valley Cuisine, and is a stunning example of what hard work and determination can build.
While we look forward to seeing you at Campo as soon as it reopens, we invite you to experience Chef Jonathan's artistry by ordering Campo Curbside, available Wednesday through Sunday.
We’d love your feedback
Well-being in the truest sense
We have always taken the concept of well-being seriously at Los Poblanos. Well-being in tourism can sometimes mean some form of personal actualization, but it's also about being healthy, happy and comfortable. For us, it's also about doing the right thing, whether that's farming sustainably or celebrating our rich culture, and we hope that translates to guests feeling good, both physically and mentally. With the long tree-lined entry beginning to bloom, we've begun crafting our reopening strategy. And with that, we're considering what well-being means today, and what it will mean over the next year.
An update from the farm
Hitting pause for a few weeks
Effective Sunday, April 12, we have decided to temporarily suspend Campo Curbside and the bricks and mortar operations in the Farm Shop's Farm Foods market. We have been so thrilled to have your support as we've experimented with these new business models, and it has been heartwarming to see our community queuing up in their cars for Campo Curbside meals and Farm Shop pick up orders. However, as we are hopefully entering the last phase of sheltering at home and social distancing, we think it is important to be as cautious as possible. Closing our gates for a few weeks will ensure the safety of our essential employees on the farm, as well as further encourage our community to stay home. We are tentatively planning to resume these services by May 1, in keeping with our Governor's order, and will reassess as we get closer to that date.
Meet our Lavender Hand Sanitizer
After over a year of development, our Lavender Hand Sanitizer is finally here, and the timing couldn't be more serendipitous. Our production team has crafted a sanitizer that not only refreshes hands, but blends our own home-grown, home-distilled lavender and a touch of rose water to offer an aromatherapeutic boost. Lavender has been used for thousands of years for its natural healing and antiseptic properties, and effortlessly lends itself for use in a sanitizer. This new addition pairs perfectly with our signature Lavender Hand Soap and Lotion for the ultimate hand cleansing experience.
Product Highlight: Lavender Hand Soap
Hand Washing is essential
We’re washing our hands with more attention and care these days, so naturally our thoughts turn to our trusted Lavender Hand Soap a little more than usual. With a handful of simple ingredients, it’s a product we rely on every day to cleanse hardworking hands around the farm, and now we’re even more grateful for this valued product in our lavender line. It has moisturizing properties, which are much appreciated as we’re washing with more frequency, and lavender’s calming scent is especially grounding during this confusing time. Our Lavender Hand Soap was thoughtfully developed, and each ingredient plays a vital role. We are committed to creating products with the most natural ingredients possible. Our entire line is sulfate and paraben free, and is never tested on animals.
Introducing Campo Curbside
Through these uncertain times, we are challenging ourselves to offer new dining experiences to our community. We are thrilled to announce new family-style meals from Chef Jonathan Perno and the Campo team, available for curbside pickup Wednesday through Saturday from 4 pm until 6 pm. Simply order online the day before, and our culinary team will get to work preparing a meal that we hope will bring a little comfort to your table. We are so grateful for your support, which will continue to provide jobs to a small team of our chefs, restaurant staff and community of local farmers.
Changes and temporary closures at Los Poblanos
As concerns continue to escalate in our current environment, we've made what we feel is the most responsible, proactive decision given the information we currently have. Effective immediately, Los Poblanos will be closing the Inn, Events and Campo (both dining room and bar), with plans to reopen on May 1. If you have an upcoming reservation with us during this time, you've likely heard from us. But if not, rest assured you will soon. For the safety of our employees, guests and community, we are compelled to do our due diligence in creating space and distance so that people remain well. Community means everything to us.
Spring forward on the farm
Escape to the North Valley and spend time relaxing on the farm and getting back to nature. Call the Inn directly at 505-344-9297 to book your getaway and we'll help you create the perfect itinerary for a lovely and memorable experience.
Healthy rooms at Los Poblanos
Sustainability is at the core of every decision we make here on the farm, and while we aren't often touting the health and cleanliness of our rooms, our thorough daily cleaning practices are something in which we take enormous pride.
Product Highlight: Lavender Facial Toner
Lavender Facial Toner turns a year old!
Our Lavender Facial Toner was added to our collection of artisan lavender products one year ago and it has quickly become a favorite on the farm. Its only ingredient is hydrosol, which is a naturally occurring product of our distillation process. We distill organic lavender in copper alembic stills which have antimicrobial effects and produce a pure and truly beautiful hydrosol.
New offerings at Campo
Start the day at Campo
What better way to start the day than with an organic, creative meal at Campo. Our team of talented chefs have infused a new menu with fresh, local ingredients and rich New Mexican influences.

Product Highlight: Lavender Salve
Learn the story of our best-selling product
The Los Poblanos Lavender Salve is a staple on the farm. The first product in our ever-growing line, the lavender salve was created by our founder and owner Penny Rembe. Our Lavender Salve was originally created for and is still used as an intensive way to treat hard-working hands around the farm. Since its humble beginnings where it was made in small batches and hand poured from a 1930's Garland stove, our signature lavender salve has been our number one selling item and shows no sign of slowing down.
A look back on an amazing year
2019 at Los Poblanos
As the property slows down after the holiday season, we’re taking time to look back on 2019. The year was filled with many exciting changes at Los Poblanos, from the addition of chickens and sheep to the farm to improving benefits for our growing number of employees. With a complex business, we are constantly challenging ourselves to innovate and be good stewards of the land. While we certainly faced hurdles and setbacks, we are thrilled to share some of our accomplishments from the year as we rolled up our sleeves to further our mission of sustainable agriculture, hospitality, historic preservation and community.

Fall brings crisp mornings and new seasonal offerings to the Campo breakfast menu. Begin a lovely new day in our sunny dining room and enjoy breathtaking views of the Sandia Mountains, our farm fields and the changing colors of the ancient cottonwood trees. Campo's culinary team has created unforgettable dishes that are perfect for the season and just might make breakfast your favorite meal of the day.
Campo acoustics
We heard you loud and clear!
We know our restaurant, Campo, can be a “lively” experience where noise levels sometimes made it difficult to have a dinner conversation. With your feedback, we made a significant investment in reducing the decibel levels at Campo. We contracted VAST Technologies, a local sound engineering company, that recorded decibel levels of the space, identified the biggest sources of increased sound levels, and proposed a variety of solutions for us to consider.
Brews bring us together
Los Poblanos is proud to present a dining series like no other. Executive Chef Jonathan Perno, resident Sommelier Dylan Storment and the award-winning culinary team at Los Poblanos have carefully curated an entire year of Rio Grande Valley Cuisine dinner programming to highlight the spirit and artistry of the season. This series will also pay homage to our local ranchers, farmers, vintners, brewers and distillers who share in our culinary philosophy and understand that flavors and ingredients are as important as the environment and terroir they originate from
